Rebecca June Kirkpatrick Bare, 80, of Broadway, VA died April 15, 2012 at Life Care Center of New Market.

She was born June 28, 1931 in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Clinton C. and Ressie Carr Kirkpatrick.

She was a poultry farmer, and a homemaker. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Broadway, where she sang in the choir. She judged baking and canning events at the local fairs, and she also won a number of baking and canning awards. She was certified as a swimming and life saving instructor. She taught many children, including most of her grandchildren to swim. She loved to trout fish. She was very proud of her Irish decent.

On October 22, 1951 she married Alton “Shine” C. Bare, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kim Turner of Stanley, VA, Kathy Chandler and husband Jeff of Broadway; one son, Kent Bare of Broadway; eleven grandchildren, Cherri Anne Long, Brandon Chandler, Rebecca Bonner, Ben Chandler, Amanda Bare, Ammon Turner, Aaron Bare, Gavin Bare, Taylor Chandler, Ade Turner, Levi Bare; four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Keith W. Bare; brothers, Marshall, Herbert, Hubert, Clifford, Kemper, Marcus, Walter, Perry, Elbert, Brown Kirkpatrick; and sisters, Charlotte K. Summers, Frances Smallwood, Lelia High, Eunice Custer, Goldie Durrer.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Pastor Kevin Gerber will conduct a funeral service 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church. Burial will be at Bethel cemetery in Mayland.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
