Donald Edward “Donnie” Southerly, 72, of Harrisonburg, passed away April 21, 2012. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was born April 27, 1939 and was a son of the late Walter and Marie Shook Southerly.
He grew up and attended school in the Bergton area. He retired in 2004 from the City of Harrisonburg and had previously worked on farms most of his life. He attended Greenmount Church of the Brethren in Linville.
On November 23, 1964, he married the former Betty Jean Weaver, who survives.
Also surviving is a son; Roger Southerly, of Harrisonburg, five sisters; Joyce Pence and husband Beverly, Sr., Arvilla Showalter and husband Nelson, Ramona Nesselrodt, all of Broadway, Janet Runion of Gerrardstown, WV, Donna Link of Baker, WV, and two brothers; Weldon Southerly and wife Jerolene, of Bridgewater, James Southerly and wife Maria, of Broadway.
In addition to his parents, two sisters; Betty Southerly and Kaye Ford, and a brother; Wayne Southerly, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at the Greenmount Church of the Brethren on Tuesday April 24, 2012 at 1 PM with Pastor Ken Dolan presiding. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway Monday from 6-8 PM.
