Robert "Bob" Keith Ritchie

Robert “Big Bob” Keith Ritchie, 83, of “the bluff” in Broadway, died May 17, 2012 at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg.

He was born April 6, 1929 in Charlottesville and was the son of the late Icye I. Ritchie.

He was a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served as Staff Sgt. He owned his own construction company and worked as a brick and stone mason. He also drove a truck for many years for numerous companies which include; Early and Eddins Produce in Timberville, and Smith’s Transfer. He was a member of the Teamsters Truckers Union, and the Broadway- Timberville Ruritan Club where he was volunteer of the year in 1999 for his work on building the Habitat House in Broadway.

On July 19, 1953 he married the former Wanda L. Reubush who preceded him in death on June 18, 2008.

He is survived by his daughters; Renata and husband Steve Layman of Harrisonburg, Reata and husband Greg Harpine of New Market, granddaughter; Jennifer L. Layman of Greenville, NC, brothers; Ashby Wayne Cline of Texas, Allen Ray Cline, Dwight Cline of New Market, Donnie Cline of Broadway, a sister; Phyllis Hansberger of New Market, numerous nieces and nephews and 31 first cousins. Preceding him in death in addition to his wife was a brother; Jesse Cline Jr., sisters Ashaline Shifflett, Anita Fulk, favorite first cousin; Robert C. “little Bob” Ritchie.

Rev. Lewis Armentrout will conduct a memorial service 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 26, at the Fairview Church of the Brethren near Endless Caverns.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

The body was cremated.
