Obituary

Bernard Lenwood Waybright, 76, of Broadway, VA, passed away on May 16, 2026 in his home.

He was the beloved husband of Sandra Lynn Hawk Waybright, with whom he shared a life of love and devotion.

Bernard proudly served his country as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army from 1975-1982.  Following his military service, he spent many years of his life working as a mechanic and truck driver, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability and skill.

He will be remembered for his kindness, humor and quick wit, as well as the deep care he showed for his family, his gratitude, his willingness to help others and his positive outlook on life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother; Cora Marie Nice, his children; Bernard, Jr., Kevin, Cindy, Randy, Krystal, Ricky, Devon, Christopher, Rodney, Storm Waybright and many grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son; Andrew  Bernard Waybright.

Bernard found great joy in spending time with his family, tending to his beautiful summer garden and his unique passion for taming wild animals.  Those who knew him will always remember "Sammy", his beloved pet groundhog.

A viewing will be held in honor of Bernard on Tuesday, May 19th from 12:00 PM- 1:30 PM at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 872 Bismark Road, Mt. Storm, WV 26739.

Following the viewing, a graveside service will be held at Locust Grove Church Cemetery.

A meal will be served at the church immediately following the graveside service.  Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Bernard's life, share memories and offer support to the family during this time.

"His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him."

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, VA.
