Obituary

Betty Tusing Lohr, 84, of Broadway, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Shenandoah Terrace Memory Care in New Market, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Ms. Lohr was born on February 8, 1942, in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Sturn H. Tusing and Mary "Kate" Stayner Tusing.

After graduating from Broadway High School, Betty worked at Heatwole Hatchery and Sysco before beginning a successful career in real estate that spanned more than 20 years. She retired from Old Dominion Realty in 2012.

Betty was an avid golfer and spent many happy hours on the golf course. When she was not working or golfing, she cherished spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her son, Lester Lohr, and wife Pam of Broadway; granddaughter, Ashley Newcity and husband Colin of Penn Laird; great-grandsons, Gray and Wells Newcity; brothers, Ellis Tusing of Harrisonburg and Terry Tusing and wife Pat of Timberville; sister-in-law, Eleanor Tusing of Broadway; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Eugene "Jack" Tusing, Clayton Tusing, and Donald Tusing; and sisters, Phyllis Trumbo and Connie Shifflett.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Shenandoah Terrace Memory Care for the outstanding care, kindness, and compassion they provided Betty during the last five years.

Betty's wishes were to be cremated.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 PM at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

Burial will be private at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
