Betty Roadcap Ritchie, 90, of Broadway, VA passed away December 2, 2025 at her residence.
She was born on December 29, 1934 in Rockingham County, to the late John G. and Flossie Custer Roadcap.
Betty was a caretaker most of her life. She raised 6 children and a granddaughter while working at R.M.H. as a nurse's aide. She quit her job at R.M.H. only to care for her own elderly parents until their passing. Betty returned to patient care work, by caring for many valley residents and their families. She was a member of Mtn. Grov Church of the Brethren in Fulks Run. Everyone knew Betty as "Mom" or "Maw", even those that weren't her family.
On July 5, 1952 she married Homer Ritchie, who preceded her in death August 28, 2000.
Surviving are four daughters, Gale Bennett of Harrisonburg, Kathy Taylor and husband Rick of Broadway, Julie Driver and husband Robert of Broadway, Tracey Patterson and husband Brent of Dayton; three sons, Danny Ritchie and wife Kathy of Broadway, Stephen Ritchie and wife Joyce of Broadway, Tony Ritchie and partner Janice of Broadway; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Chester Roadcap, Vada Hinegardner, William "Bill" Roadcap, Margaret Kennedy, John Roadcap, Bob Roadcap, Nelson Roadcap, and Otis Roadcap.
Pastors Kevin Gerber and Jerry Shiflet will conduct a funeral service 11:00 AM Monday at Mtn. Grove Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 – 8 PM at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
