Bonnie Lou Yankey, 79 of Criders, VA passed away August 28, 2026 at Oak Lea at VMRC.
She was born April 7, 1947 in Rockingham County, to the late Denver and Dorothy Greene Fulk.
Bonnie worked in the housekeeping department at VMRC for 20 years. Prior to that, she was employed by H.D. Lee Company until its closure. She was a member of Valley View Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday School. Bonnie was also a dedicated youth leader for many years, serving the Bergton community churches and making a lasting impact on the lives of many young people. Bonnie cherished spending time with her grandchildren and her cats. A talented seamstress and artist, she found joy in creating beautiful things with her hands and also loved decorating cakes and tending to her flower beds. Her creativity, caring spirit, and devotion to her family and community will be deeply missed.
On October 26, 1962 she married Harold "Squirm" Yankey who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Rickie Yankey (Elizabeth), Dickie Yankey (Theresa);grandchildren, Kent Yankey (Kayla), Eric Yankey (Gracie), Christine Yankey (Quinten); great grandchildren, Atleigh, Brantley, Harper; one brother, Denver Fulk, Jr. "Junebug" (Ann); and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Warner, Sandy Good; and one brother, Vick Fulk.
Pastor Mike Shenk will conduct a funeral service 2:00 PM Tuesday at Valley View Mennonite Church in Criders. Burial will be in the Caplinger Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 – 8 PM at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley View Mennonite Church, 21806 Criders Road, Criders, VA 22820.
