Carl Leroy
Martin
May 10, 1943 — Jan 16, 2025
Carl Leroy Martin, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on January 16, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on May 10, 1943, he was the son of Joseph William Martin and Lillian Derrer Martin, both deceased.
Carl is survived by his son: C.L. Martin and his wife, Teresa; and his stepsons, Steven Ashenfelter, Tony Ashenfelter and his fiancée, Tabby, and Eric Ashenfelter. He was a proud grandfather to Travis, Luke, Kaleb, Mykala, and Austin, as well as a great-grandfather of five. He is also remembered by his only surviving sibling, Peggy Smith, along with many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death only three weeks ago by his wife: Agnes Martin. He is also preceded in death by his siblings: Raymond Martin, Joan Marie Shifflett, Jean Smith, Norman Martin, and Joyce Harbin.
Having retired from Lantz Construction, Carl dedicated his life to his family and his passions. He was known for his big grin, excellent sense of humor, and love of pranks, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. Together with Agnes, he shared a deep love for horses, finding joy and connection in their presence. We are certain that they are both riding on the most beautiful horses in heaven.
A Celebration of Life for Carl will be held on Sunday, February 16th, at 11:00 am at Bergton Gospel Center, 19507 Brock's Gap Rd., Bergton, Virginia. The church's regular Sunday service will be a special gospel style revival featuring special music and congregational hymn singing. A heartfelt sermon will be delivered by Brother Lewis Paugh. Concluding with a brief eulogy, family testimonials, and a final song. This church service is open to the public and promises to be a memorable spiritual experience and tribute to a life well-lived. Any offertory for the church will be greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grandle Funeral Home, P.O. Box 114, Broadway, VA 22815, towards the cost of final expenses.
