Cecil David "Dave" Dean of Timberville, born December 12, 1960 in Harrisonburg, VA to the late Cecil Davis Dean and Norma Jean May Dean, went home to Heaven on October 29, 2022 in Winchester, VA. Surviving is his wife, Sharon Dean, daughter Sarah Dean and sister Bobbie McGarry (Mack McGarry)  and niece Lisa Wise (Jamie Wise). As well as being survived by numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved dearly.

He served his country in active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1980-1986 and the Virginia National Guard from 1986-1991, and was a lifetime member of the Chimney Rock VFW as well as American Legion. He served the Maricopa and Pima tribes on the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona as a firefighter and paramedic from 1991 until he suffered a heat stroke in 2003 rescuing a woman on the reservation.He was a hardworker and saved many lives during his career, on and off the rez. He did not let his disability diminish who he was and tackled every day with patience, strength and resilience.  He enjoyed hunting with his brother-in-law Bobby Smith and liked to spend time fishing or enjoying the Shenandoah river in his backyard. He was very gifted in woodworking and handmade all of his walking sticks and canes that he used as long as he was able to. Dave was a proud owner of a 1964 Harley Davidson and frequently rode with his Legacy Vet Motorcycle Club brothers and loved to show up in support of a fallen veteran at events in the valley or in D.C. Most of all, Dave's greatest calling was a father. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his daughter Sarah and he was her best friend.

A funeral service will be held at the Grandle Funeral Home chapel on Friday, November 4th at 11:30 am with the visitation to be held prior at 10:30. Graveside burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grandle Funeral Home to help with expenses; or to the VFW National Childrens home.
