Charles "Charlie" Ernest Smith, 39, passed away on January 16, 2024 at his home in Broadway after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on September 5, 1984 to Margaret Wampler Smith and Kenneth Eugene Smith. After graduating in 2003 from Broadway High School, he attended Bridgewater College and National University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Information Technology.

Charlie shared his life with Amanda Sherman and two cats, Luna and Sushi. Amanda's continual love and care was palpable through his final moments. He will be remembered as a quiet, honest and witty person, and his family will miss his breadth of knowledge and endless sports expertise. His friends will miss his hosting of Saturday game nights.

His family is grateful for the support he received while employed at James Madison University in the IT Department as a Windows Systems Engineer.

Charlie leaves behind significant other Amanda Sherman; mother, Margaret W. Smith; sister, Dorothy Smith; brother-in-law John Jacobs; and niece Charlie Frances as well as aunts, uncles and cousins who offered unwavering support during his treatments and beyond. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Eugene Smith.

A celebration of Charlie's life will be held Saturday, January 20th from 1-4 pm at the Plains District Community Center in Timberville.
