Charles Ernest "Ernie" Fulk, 84, of Broadway, VA passed away September 2, 2026 at his home.

Ernie was born January 21, 1942 in Broadway, to the late Edward "Ted" and Irene Tusing Fulk.

Before his retirement, he dedicated many years of work as a supervisor for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) at Chimney Rock.  He was a faithful member of the community and attended Mt. Carmel United Brethren in Christ Church in Fulks Run.

A true outdoorsman, he was an avid bear hunter and skilled houndsman who loved being in the mountains. Many of his happiest days were spent at his cabin, affectionately known as the "Groundhog Hotel." It was there that he passed down his passion, teaching his grandchildren to hunt, and where he spent his Sundays playing cards with his close buddies. In his younger years, he played volleyball for Mac's Superette Team. He also loved going to yard sales.

On August 14, 1960 he married the former Phyllis Dean who survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Patricia Fulk Crist and husband John; grandchildren, Tyler Blaine and Alycia, Dalton Gerstenmaier and Katie; great grandchildren, Caroline, Brooks, and Eliza Gerstenmaier; Mason Charles Blaine; one brother, William "Bill" Fulk and wife Rita; his aunt, Helen Nazelrodt; and a special friend, Fred Beard.

His sister, Connie Taylor; and three nephews, Carson Taylor, Wayne Taylor, and Tony Fulk preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Saturday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.  Per Ernie's request, he was cremated.
