Dallas Kyle Alkire was a man of curiosity, intelligence, and joy. Born on September 17, 1934, in West Milford, West Virginia, he began working at the age of 16, a reflection of the strong work ethic he carried throughout his life. As a young man, he explored many different jobs, learning from each experience until he discovered his true calling in computer analysis and programming. What began as an interest grew into a career of more than 30 years in service to the federal government, where his sharp mind, dedication, and problem-solving skills made a lasting impact.

Dallas was never shy about engaging in deep conversations, always doing so with love, respect, and genuine interest in others. He truly never met a stranger. Smart and fun-loving, he was quick with humor and known for his warmth, wit, and ability to make people feel immediately at ease.

A lifelong West Virginia University fan, Mountaineer blue and gold ran through his veins. Loyalty was one of Dallas' defining traits, and nowhere was that more evident than in his devotion to WVU football. He and his wife Beverley were longtime season ticket holders, faithfully attending both home and away games for more than 20 years—regardless of the team's record. It was fitting that his favorite song was "Country Roads" by John Denver—a song that felt like it was written just for him, echoing his deep love for West Virginia and always finding his way home.

After retiring, Dallas and Beverley embraced life fully. They became avid travelers, visiting many exotic destinations on their cruises, and enjoyed spending time together golfing, bowling, shooting pool, playing card games, and sharing laughter with family and friends. Sports rivalries also added a bit of fun to family life—Dallas remained a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan in a Washington Redskins family, and somehow, we still loved him.

In 2018, Dallas and Beverley moved to Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) in Harrisonburg. As Dallas transitioned to full care, the VMRC staff provided exceptional compassion and support. Dallas was deeply loved and well cared for, and his family is forever grateful for the kindness and dedication shown to him.

Surviving are his wife; the former Beverley Barrett, of Harrisonburg, VA, seven daughters; Lois Alkire Wilson, of Winston-Salem, NC, Dana Alkire Bacorn, of Buckhannon, WV, Deborah A. Alkire, of Sarasota, FL, Denise A. Alkire, of Shepherdstown, WV, Dawn Alkire Wheeler, of Graham, NC, Dee A. Alkire, of Manassas, VA, Dale A. Alkire, of Manassas, VA, one son; Dallas K. Alkire, Jr. and wife Alice, of Buckhannon, WV, one step-daughter; Sharon Sustrick Ober and husband David, of Reston, VA, and two step-sons; Scott A. Sustrick and wife Kim, of Hollywood, FL, Steven W. Sustrick and wife Courtenay, of Woodbridge, VA.

Dallas will be deeply missed by many, but most especially by the love of his life, his wife of nearly 40 years, Beverley. His intelligence, humor, loyalty, and generous spirit leave a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
