Darla Elaine (Hess) Barkley, 76, of Timberville, VA, passed away August 11, 2025, at TimberView Crossing Assisted Living in Timberville.

She was born March 15, 1949, in Harrisonburg to the late Erman Ray and Juna Ketterman Hess.

Darla graduated from Broadway High School in 1967. She married Roscoe "Billy" Barkley in 1973. She provided childcare in the home to many families for nearly two decades before working in the accounting office with Dunham Bush. She later worked at Fitzwater Trucking and then for Riddleberger Brothers, Inc. in the accounting office. She was a highly involved member of Timberville Church of the Nazarene, serving as their pianist and treasurer for over 40 years, in addition to working with the children's ministry and various missions.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Roscoe William "Billy" Barkley, her two daughters, Sara Herndon (Chad) of Mechanicsville, and Krista Palacios (Edson) of Kansas City, MO, her sister, Erma Orebaugh (Harold), five grandchildren (Sophie, Cammie, Josiah, Judah, and Silas), and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, her brothers, Ernest and Donnie Hess, preceded her in death.

Pastor Todd Thomas will conduct a memorial service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 16, at Timberville Church of the Nazarene.  Burial will be private at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  There will  not be any services at Grandle Funeral Home.
