Debbie Heatwole Brown, 74, of Broadway, passed away on November 18, 2023 at the Blue Ridge Hospice Intensive Care Center in Winchester, VA.
Debbie was born in Harrisonburg, VA on June 9,1949. She was the daughter of the late Edgar "Red" Moyer and the late Jean Moyer.
Debbie graduated from Broadway High School in 1967 and worked for Shomo & Lineweaver Insurance in Harrisonburg, VA from 1967 to 1981. As the receptionist, she worked her way from Personal Lines up to Commercial Lines. She passed her state exam and became an Insurance Agent for the company. In 1981, she became the Secretary for the Principal at Plains Elementary School in Timberville, VA. She worked there until her retirement in 2011.
Debbie will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, wife, aunt, sister, grandmother, and friend. She faced her final days with hope, courage, and a tremendous fighting spirit through her six-month battle with brain cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard Brown of Broadway; her two daughters, Whitney Pence (Devon) of Woodstock, VA, and Summer Cichosz (Eric) of Forest Park, IL, a stepson, Daniel Brown of Harrisonburg; her grandchildren, Quincy Cichosz, Audry Cichosz, Hayden Pence and Harper Pence. Debbie also leaves behind her older sister and best friend, Fonda Kay Cullers (Richard) of Broadway; a special nephew, J Dan Cullers of Dayton; special nieces, Jennifer Cullers Strawderman of Penn Laird and Maggie Cullers of Dayton; multiple other nieces, nephews and cousins; dear friends Lorraine Clutteur of Harrisonburg, JJ Hicks of Winchester, Phyllis Mongold of Linville and Lisa Hudson of Singers Glen, whom Debbie loved as a daughter.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 6-8 PM. At Debbie's request, her body was cremated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
