My husband, Dennis Delane Coffman, passed away peacefully May 13, 2026 in the ICU at Sentara RMH. Our son, Ben, daughter Mandy and daughter-in-law Parisa were with me by his bedside.

Dennis was born April 14,1955 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital to the late Edwin Noah (Johnny) Coffman and Peggy Corbin Coffman of Timberville, Va.

Dennis and Debbe were married in July 1975 in an outdoor ceremony and began a wonderful life together. From this union our son Ben and daughter Mandy were born.

Dennis graduated from Broadway High School in 1973 and Old Dominion University in 1986; while working with a young family, he received a Mechanical Engineering degree.

He began his career at Rockingham Memorial Hospital as an entry level maintenance man in 1975. Through hard work he retired from RMH in 2014 as the Facility Planning and Development Director. He oversaw the building of the new hospital.

What couldn't Dennis do? He could repair, build just about anything. A repairman was rarely needed at our home. He also enjoyed so many adventures in his younger years. He became a scuba dive master, an award-winning duck decoy carver, a leather crafter, woodworker, collected and repaired old mantle clocks and collected old coins. Also, in younger years he enjoyed fishing trips with his dad and brother, John to Beaverland Fish Camp in North Bay, Canada.

He was introduced to native trout fly fishing by friend Brent. The rest of his life flyfishing small mountain streams for native trout was a passion. He went on to build flyrods for himself, our son and grandsons. The last few years he enjoyed flyfishing trips through Virginia and West Virginia with our son, grandsons and friend Sherwin.

Dennis was a lifelong hunter and enjoyed annual hunting trips to Montana with his dad, brother, son and friends. His dad taught Dennis and his brother John mushroom hunting. Dennis enjoyed going into the woods and searching for mushrooms with his dad and brother.

Dennis loved his years of retirement, especially daily life with Debbe. To spend even more time together, Dennis asked Debbe to make a quilt together. I was surprised as we did not know how to sew, had no knowledge of quilt making and no sewing machine. So, we took classes and began our quilt making journey. Last year we made seventeen quilts together. We were able to finish three quilts earlier this year.

Dennis is survived by his mom, Peggy of Timberville, his wife Debbe of Broadway, son Ben (wife Parisa) and twin grandsons Landon and Bridger, all of Lake Frederick, VA, daughter Mandy Whitlock (husband Josh) grandchildren, Eli, Lucy and Charlotte of Bozeman, Montana. Also, grandchildren Mason and Emma Whitlock of Mobile, Alabama. Siblings, Juanita Fulk (late husband Marlin), John Coffman (wife Laura) and Judy Coffman, all of Timberville.

He is also survived by Debbe's family. Karen Shoemaker (husband Denny), Winnie Hoover (husband Jim) and Patty Showalter (late husband Dale).

He was preceded in death by his dad, Johnny, brother-in-law Dale Showalter and friend Brent Golladay.

We wish to thank the ICU for the dedicated care given to Dennis- from the doctors, nurses, aides and housekeepers.

Burial will be private. A celebration of Dennis' life will be announced at a later date.

We will love and miss Dennis the rest of our lives, his death is a devastating earthquake in our lives. His legacy will live on within us.
