Obituary

Doris June Spitler Long, of Timberville, passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2025, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service and devotion to family.

Born on May 31, 1945 in New Market, VA, Doris grew up in the Shenandoah Valley surrounded by the love of a large family of 11 brothers and sisters.  A proud graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School's Class of 1963, she answered the call to serve her country in the U.S. Army from 1963-1964, serving honorably before receiving an honorable discharge.

Her greatest joy came from her marriage of nearly 58 years to Archie Long, her beloved husband, a partnership built on love, commitment and unwavering support.  Together they built a beautiful life and family that grew to include two devoted sons, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immeasurable happiness to her life.

Her commitment to serving others was exemplified by her lifetime membership in the Broadway Emergency Squad, where she dedicated countless hours to helping those in need within the community.  Doris was also a member of Sunset Drive United Methodist Church in Broadway.

Doris will be remembered for her quick wit, generous spirit, steadfast faith and the warmth she brought to all who knew her.  Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all those whose lives she touched.

Doris is survived by her loving husband; Archie Long, two sons; Stuart (Barbara) and Steven (Tammy), five grandchildren; Brian Long (Caroline), Tyler Long (Casey), Rebecca Williams (Derek), Cassie Eaton (Jonathan) and Kaci Long, five great-grandchildren; Haven Long, Owen Long, Emma Williams, Caroline Eaton, Darla Long and her siblings; Lona Fox, Jake Spitler, Wade Spitler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Edward B. and Flora A. Comer Spitler and seven siblings; Leonard F. White, Harry Comer, Betty Leach, Charles Spitler, Dolan Spitler, Robert Spitler, Raymond Spitler.

Pastor Rob Wilder will conduct a memorial service at 11:00 on Saturday February 21, 2026 at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.
