Elizabeth (Liz) A. Startin, 74, of Broadway, Va., passed away on 19 April, 2023 at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, Va.

She was born 26 May 1948 in Alexandria, Va., and was the daughter of the late Alvin Russell and Mary Jane Hutcherson.

On 18 Aug, 1979, she married her soulmate, Duane E. Startin, Sr.

Liz worked as a Traffic Management Specialist for the GSA in Washington D.C. for a number of years before retiring. She had a B.S.  in Elementary Education with a minor in English from James Madison University, of which she was a proud alumnus. Liz volunteered her time teaching English as a second language when she could. She and her late husband were also active members of the Broadway Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School and served as a member of the Choir and as an Elder in the Church. She had fond memories of everyone she worked with and all of her students.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane E. Startin Sr., parents Alvin (Mary Jane) Hutcherson, sister Barbara Jo Abt, and niece Memory Kathleen Hutcherson.

Surviving is a son, Duane E. Startin Jr. (wife Susan); grandchildren Kenneth R. Startin & Haleigh R. Startin, great-grandson Kaiser Z. Startin, and a number of close-knit and loving cousins. Also surviving are Liz's many friends and those she treated as family; Jerry (Kimberly) Wimer and their children Angelica & Ashley Wimer, whom Liz had accepted as part of the family.

Elizabeth was cremated and will be laid to rest with her husband at the military base at Quantico. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 11th at Broadway Presbyterian Church.
