Elizabeth "Libby" McNeal Claybrook, 95, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away January 1, 2025, at Life Care Center of New Market.
She was born January 14, 1929, in Harrisonburg, to the late Marshall and Nellie Shutters McNeal.
Libby attended Randolph-Macon College and graduated from Westhampton College (University of Richmond) in 1949 with a BA in French. On December 22, 1950, she married Richard Allen "Rip" Claybrook, Sr., who preceded her in death March 3, 2014.
After living in several areas of Virginia, Libby and Rip retired to Harrisonburg in 1983. In each community, Libby was actively involved in her church and garden clubs. She served as a Girl Scout leader when living in Springfield. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg and volunteered with the RMH Auxiliary. In addition to gardening, Libby enjoyed needlework and was an avid reader.
Libby is survived by her daughter, Helen Claybrook Loman (Douglas) of Quicksburg; two grandchildren, Tim Loman (Louisa) of Johnson City, TN, and Paul Loman of New York City, NY; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her son, Richard Allen Claybrook, Jr. preceded her in death, November 16, 2021.
Libby was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Pastor Stephen Creech will conduct a memorial service at 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 8, at Manor Memorial United Methodist Church in New Market. Burial at Solomon's Lutheran Church Cemetery will be private.
Friends may view and sign the guestbook from 10 AM – 7 PM Tuesday, January 7, at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
