Ernest Franklin Cook, Jr., 72, of Broadway, died March 15, 2025 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg.
He was born September 7, 1952 in Shenandoah County and was a son to the late Ernest Franklin and Yonnie Virginia Mathias Cook, Sr.
Ernie was a carpenter and contractor his entire life. It is difficult to drive anywhere in the area without seeing something he helped build. He was a devoted father, teaching his children hard work and life skills early in their life. He even learned new sports so that he could coach them and attend every event. Ernie loved spending time with his family playing card games, working on projects together and going to all his grandkid's sports and activities. Ernie was a humble and hardworking man who loved the Lord and his family.
On December 23, 1976, Ernie married his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Jones Cook, his soulmate and partner in all things. Carolyn preceded him in death on September 29, 2022.
Surviving him are a daughter; Jennifer Cook Ennis and husband John-Allen, of Broadway, a son; Jeremy Cook and wife Promise, of Rockingham, four grandchildren; Annabelle and Charlotte Cook, Jordan and Madyson Ennis, and two siblings; Dorethea Stroop and husband James (Jim), of New Market, Alfred Cook and wife Angie, of Mt. Crawford.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Riley.
Pastor Matthew Diehl will conduct a memorial service 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 19th, at St. James Lutheran Church in Mt. Jackson. Burial will be private at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mathias, WV.
