Gary Amos Arehart, 78, 0f Woodstock, Virginia, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025.  He was born in the Shenandoah Valley on January 2, 1947, and grew up in New Market, Virginia.  He was the son of the late Berlin (Murphy) and Vivian Arehart, and a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School.

During high school, Gary played the cornet in the band under the direction of his music teacher, Rosie Orebaugh.  He also enjoyed playing football and participating in other sports.  After graduation he proudly served in the military, which led to a successful and fulfilling career as a Computer Systems Analyst.  He worked for companies such as GE and L'Oréal, and spent a year in Saudi Arabia applying his computer expertise.

Outside of work, Gary had many interests and hobbies.  He enjoyed golfing, watching football, gardening, and photography.  He had a deep appreciation for his home in the Shenandoah Valley and often said it was the best place on earth.

Gary was preceded in death by his son, Alan Arehart.  He is survived by three children: Andy Arehart, Adam Arehart and his wife Angela, and Anya Ludolf and her husband John.  He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Mitchell Ludolf, Damien Lior, Alexander Arehart, Joshua Ludolf, Ava Arehart, and Miller Arehart-Firth.

He is also survived by his beloved brother, Alan Arehart, and Alan's children:  Kristina Walker and husband Brett, Kevin Arehart, and Bryan Arehart.

A visitation will be held at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway on Sunday, August 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  A graveside service will take place Monday, August 4, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew's Cemetery in New Market, VA.

Gary will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his passion for technology and nature, and his deep love for the Shenandoah Valley.
