Gary Turner, 87, of Broadway, Virginia, went home to be with his heavenly father on August 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born in Timberville, VA on August 22, 1938, to the late George "Hilly" Turner and Virginia Wine Turner.

On August 9, 1986, he married Ruby Good Nesselrodt. Just days before his passing, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

After graduating from Broadway High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and later attended trade school, where he studied the electrical trade. He officially retired as a superintendent from Harrisonburg Electric Commission in 2000, which quickly gave way to his "post-retirement" careers of building homes, remodeling homes, and selling used cars. At the age of 86, he finally eased into a quieter pace of life.

Above all, his greatest passion this side of heaven was his family. He was their unwavering rock. He was a hands-on father and grandfather as his love and devotion for them was endless. He loved to be outdoors whether it was hunting, gardening or just sitting on his porch swing enjoying God's beauty. He will be missed beyond measure by those who loved him.

Gary was a dedicated member of Cedar Run Church of the Brethren in Broadway, Virginia for over 50 years. His faith and church family held a special place in his heart.

Surviving are his two daughters, Stacy Turner-Fulk and husband, Melvin, and Kelly Turner Freeman and husband, Stacy; one stepson, Larry Nesselrodt and wife, Carole; one stepdaughter, Lisa Loveless and husband, Frank; four grandsons, Stephen Turner and wife, Teale, Brandon Freeman and wife, Tiffany, Matthew Fulk and fiancée, Alexis DeFreese, and Bryce Freeman and wife, Cassady; two great grandchildren, Branch and Ridge Freeman; one brother, Robert Turner and wife, Faye; one brother-in-law, Nelson Swope; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Swope and June Branner.

The family will receive friends at Grandle Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pastor Ken Fox will conduct a memorial service at Cedar Run Church of the Brethren on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
