Obituary

Dr. Harry Walthall Jarrett, 88 formerly of Lynchburg, died peacefully with family by his side on June 14, 2026.

He was born in Richmond, Virginia on January 4, 1938.  He was a graduate of Randolph Macon College and the University of Virginia Medical School.

A loving husband and father, he practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in Lynchburg, Virginia for twenty-five years.  He was beloved by his many patients and delivered thousands of babies as well as performing surgery. He established the first midwife program at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

He enjoyed restoring old cars, doing yard work and playing tennis.  After retirement he and his wife, Libby, traveled all over the United States in an RV with annual trips to Florida and Maine. They also sang and traveled abroad with the Jefferson Choral Society in Lynchburg.

He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Roy Jarrett and Virginia Quarles Jarrett, brothers T.Roy Jarrett, Jr. and Alvin, and a sister, Virginia Jarrett Shaw.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Wampler Jarrett, children, Harry W. Jarrett, Jr., wife, Beth, Lori Elizabeth Jarrett, Amy Jarrett, grandchildren, Sarah Jarrett Whitmore, husband, Jeremy, Christopher Blair Jarrett, wife, Savannah and Harrison Wampler Jarrett, wife, Hannah, Mikaela Jarrett Reisener, husband, Wyatt and Hannah Jarrett (Andrew).   He is also survived by his three great-grandsons, Caiden Whitmore, Carson Whitmore and Miles Jarrett.  He also leaves his sister Elizabeth Jarrett Burger and many nieces and nephews. And not least of all, his loyal Golden Retriever, Sadie M'Lady.

Profound gratitude to the staff of the Memory Care Unit at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Virginia, for his care while there.  Most especially a thank you to the nurses and staff of Health Care who made his last two months there a journey back to his "doctor days," and giving him a sense of purpose, joy and peace.

A private graveside service will be on Sunny Slope Farm in Harrisonburg.  A memorial service will be held on July 11, 2026 at Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia at 10 AM.

There will not be any services at the funeral home.
