Obituary

Howard Victor Good, 93, of New Market, died February 1, 2024 at Blue Ridge Nursing and Rehab in Harrisonburg.

He was born February 20, 1930 in New Market and was a son to the late Raleigh and Leila Showns Good.

Howard retired in 1991 after working 44 years at Bowman Apple Products.  He had a strong religious faith and gave a series of speeches on brotherly and sisterly love to 127 churches and nursing homes. He was a member at Mt. Jackson United Methodist Church but attended Caplinger United Methodist Church in Criders and Manor Memorial United Methodist Church in New Market.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his retirement he was well known for the crafts he made, enjoyed bowling and was an avid fisherman.

In September of 1957, he married the former Doris Lee Lichliter, who preceded him in death in March of 1980.  On June 20, 1981 he married the former Ethel Susan Phillips, who preceded him in death on August 22, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter; Vickie Coleman, of Bridgewater, a son; George Good, of New Market, two step daughters; Donna Jean Phillips, of New Market, Roberta "Bobbi" Ryan, of Mt. Jackson, a step son; Richard Wayne See, of Moorehead City, NC, two grandchildren, a number of step grandchildren, and a number of step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son; Terry Allen Good, a sister; Mary Jane Ward, a step granddaughter; Monica Ryan, and two brothers; J. Frank Good, James M. Good.

Rev. Stephen Creech will conduct a funeral service 11 AM Tuesday at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway.  Burial will be in the Detrick Cemetery at Fort Valley.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
