Irene Fay Smith Yankey, 93 of Bergton, VA passed away January 2, 2025 at her daughter's residence.

She was born January 16, 1931 in Hardy County, WV to the late David Leonard and Lelia Viola Hinkle Smith.

Irene was a custodian at Broadway High School.  She was a member of Damascus Church of the Brethren in Criders, and a life member of Broadway Rescue Squad – Bergton Branch.

On October 22, 1947 she married Wilson Blaine Yankey who preceded her in death July 10, 2008.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty Faye Reedy of Bergton, Holly Irene Whetzel of Bergton, Sharon Lee Tusing of Broadway; one son, Beverly Wilson Yankey of Mathias, WV; one brother, Carl W. Smith of Broadway; one sister, Linda Miller of Lacey Spring; 14 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren.

Irene's siblings, Ray Smith, Alford Smith, Leo Smith, Alma Crider, Odessa See, and Bernice Combs preceded her in death.

Pastors Mike Shenk and Larry Aikens will conduct a funeral service 1:00 PM Sunday at Damascus Church of the Brethren.  Burial will follow in Yankey Family Cemetery.

Friends may view and sign the guestbook from 9 AM – 7 PM Saturday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
