Joann "Susie" Abbott

Joann “Susie” Abbott Treece, passed away on Tuesday, September 27,2026, at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She was born February 5, 1954, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Wayne and Lucille Woodson Abbott.

At a young age, Joann moved with her parents to New Market, Virginia. While her parents were employed with Mason and Dixon Trucking Company during the construction of interstate 81, the family was relocated to Texas City, Texas.

Joann worked for the Galveston Texas Telephone Company as a lineman for several years. Following a serious accident, she was forced to retire. Although she never fully recovered from her injuries, she remained strong in her faith with the Lord.

She leaves behind her two daughters, Chris Bowers and husband Doug, Amy Bowers Fowler and husband Scott; and her grandson David Bowers.

Joann is also survived by her brother Fred Allen Abbott; sister Betty Cheatwood and husband Steve; sister-in-law, Carolyn F. Abbott.

Joann was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Wayne Abbott and John Dale Abbott.

A memorial service will be held at the home of Chris and Doug Bowers on November 1, 2026.
