Kevin Gene
Hartzler
Aug 4, 1970 — Jun 20, 2026
Kevin Gene Hartzler, 55, of Broadway passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026 surrounded by his family at his sister's home.
He was born August 4, 1970 and adopted by the late Orval and Elinor Turner Hartzler.
Kevin was a true car enthusiast who loved the freedom of the open road. Whether traveling for work or pleasure, he enjoyed exploring America from coast to coast, visiting historic landmarks and places of interest along the way. A proud Virginian, he had a deep appreciation for history and was always eager to share his knowledge of the Commonwealth and beyond. Kevin was a night owl who spent much of his career in the restaurant, bar, and nightclub industry. A food lover at heart, he especially enjoyed down-home cooking and often reflected fondly on his upbringing on the family farm. Known for his intelligence, wit, and loyalty, Kevin was the kind of friend who could always be trusted. He was a great listener, a dependable confidant, and someone who stood by those he cared about. Family and friends were important to him, as were his beloved dogs, whom he loved dearly. A naturally curious person, Kevin, seemed to know a little about everything—from cars and airplanes to history and world travel. His quiet strength, loyal heart, and wealth of knowledge will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving is his biological mother, Anita Ryan and husband Robert, half sister, April Gailas; sisters, Jannell Harris and husband Larry, Sherry Belcher; numerous nieces and nephews; very dear friend who was like a brother, Brent Jackson and wife Lynn.
In addition to his adopted parents, he was preceded in death by his biological father, David McDaniel.
