Larry “Gene” Combs, 83, of Broadway, died September 18, 2026 at Calveria Living in Harrisonburg.

He was born September 12, 1943 in Needmore, WV and was a son to the late Louis Hall and Vivian See Combs.

Gene retired from the Town of Broadway as a water treatment plant operator. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran. He was a lifelong member of New Dale Church of the Brethren in Baker, WV and attended The Brethren of Mountain Grove Church in Fulks Run, VA. Gene was an avid hunter and many of his happiest days were spent in West Virginia on the family farm.

On May 10, 1968 he married the former Anna Louise Lofton, who preceded him in death on February 27, 2026.

Surviving are a daughter; Michele Biller Blackwell, of Harrisonburg, a son; Rick Biller and wife Sandy, of Timberville, one granddaughter; Rebekah Blackwell Kuller and husband Brad, of McGaheysville, four grandsons; Richard Blackwell, IV, of Harrisonburg, Robert Blackwell and wife Meredith, of Timberville, Jordan Biller and fiancé Kattie, of Standardsville, Cameron Biller, of Harrisonburg, a great granddaughter; Anistyn Blackwell, of Dayton, two great grandsons; Pierce and Patrick Kuller, of McGaheysville, two brothers; Donald Combs and wife Betty, of Grottoes, Leon Combs and wife Judy, of Capon Bridge, WV, a special cousin; Christine Funkhouser, of Keyser, WV and a number of special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gene was preceded in death by two brothers; Ronnie Combs and Gary Combs.

Jerry Shiflet and Lane Turner will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday, September 30 at 12:00 PM at The Brethren of Mtn. Grove Church in Fulks Run. Burial will be private at New Dale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 29 from 6-8 PM at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. A guestbook will be available to sign beginning at 9 AM on Monday, September 28.
