New Market

Obituary

Lee Andrew Getz (also known fondly as Snuffy and Herman), 61, of New Market passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2024. He was born June 26, 1962, in Harrisonburg, Va. and was the son of Kenneth and Ruth Getz, of New Market, who survive.

He was devoted to his children, Amber Rinker, and husband Chris, of New Market, and Josh Getz, and wife Krystal, of New Market. His love for his children was endless.

In addition to his parents and children, he is survived by his brother, Kenneth "Junie" Getz; sister, Betty Tribby (Kevin); niece, Megan Redd (Marcus), and nephews, Jared Getz and Carter Holsinger.

Lee was the proudest grandfather and "Gee" to Kate and Korryn Rinker and Waylon Getz. They were his pride and joy and did no wrong in his home! He would drive an hour to get them ice cream, hosted countless sleepovers and always got them their first pair of "Chucks."

He surrounded himself by many lifelong friends, who shared lots of laughs, trips to the beach and drank just a few cold ones at the Streett and ATL shops. Lee enjoyed trips to Blacksburg and beyond and lived to "start jumping" for the Virginia Tech Hokies football team. He was known for his red velvet cakes and would make them for anyone within a moment's notice.

The Town of New Market was fortunate to have Lee as a committed and dedicated employee. He devoted his talents and wisdom to serve the community where he was born and raised. The stripes on the field at Rebel Park always looked best after Lee had finished mowing on Friday afternoons.

Lee was a volunteer for the New Market Fire Department in his younger years, a charter member of the New Market Eagles and attended Reformation Lutheran Church.

Lee never left his house without a pair of Chuck Taylors and a big smile. His loud laugh was contagious. He loved his tribe with all his being and was proud to show it. His wish would be for us to carry on with a smile, laugh as often as he did and record every moment as we "Live Like Gee."

Family and friends will be received on Friday, Jan. 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the New Market Fire Department. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market and will be officiated by Pastor Brad Burke. His body was cremated.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Market Rebels Baseball (P.O. Box 902, New Market, VA 22844) and to the New Market Fire and Rescue Department (9771 S. Congress St., New Market, VA 22844).
