Leon Alfred Lohr

Leon A. Lohr, 90, of Broadway died on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at his residence.

He was born on July 28, 1936, and was a son of the late Lester A. and Mary E. Lohr.

Leon was a 1956 graduate of Broadway High School and a United States Army veteran. He was a long-time member of Fairview Church of the Brethren near Endless Caverns, where he served as a deacon and on various committees throughout the years. After 34 years of employment with the USDA Federal Government Inspection Service, he retired and worked as an Independent Contractor for Sysco for 3 more years.

On May 28, 1976, he married the former Carolyn Bazzle, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Lester Lohr and wife Pam, Stacy Alder and wife Helen, granddaughter Ashley Newcity and husband, Colin, two great-grandchildren, Gray and Wells Newcity, brothers Roland “Jake” Lohr and wife, Eileen, Gary Lohr and wife, Ellen, a sister, Joyce Estep, sisters-in-law, Janice Foltz and Joyce Hartman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to his First Choice Hospice team for their compassionate and loving support during the past 2 months.

Honoring Leon’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services.

Leon and Carolyn had many rescue cats throughout the years, and he leaves behind two cats, Miss Gracie and Puffy. In memory of Leon, donations may be made to the RHSPCA, P.O. Box 413, Harrisonburg, Va. 22803.
