Lita Zehring Lytton, 91, a long-time Forestville resident, who has more recently been a part of the Bridgewater Retirement Community, passed away on December 22, 2024.

She was born on February 9, 1933, in Shenandoah County, Virginia, and was baptized at Solomons Lutheran Church, where she will also be buried.

Lita Grey Zehring was born and grew up on the family farm in Shenandoah County, which has been in the family for over 200 years and is recognized as a Century Farm by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Zehring farm remains in the family to this day. She graduated from New Market High School in 1951. She received her registered nursing degree from Rockingham Memorial Hospital in 1954. Lita worked as a nurse in Greenville, S.C., as well as in Virginia. She was the school nurse at Hughes Junior High in Greenville, S.C. She also attended the University of South Carolina and went on to earn a BA from Limestone University in Gaffney, SC in 1975.

Her love, however, was books, and she was a librarian for the Greenville Children's Library, the Gaffney Public Library, and the Gwinnett Co. Public Library in Lawrenceville, GA. She and Ty retired to Zehring Farm in 1988. Lita was a master baker and gardener–her garden produced the best heirloom tomatoes, grown and tended from seed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Tyrus Cobb Lytton II (1933-2024); her parents Arlington Adolphus Zehring (1887-1959) and Ruth Naomi Webb Zehring (1893-1955); her sisters Alma Arlene Noel Zehring Madden (1912-2005), Hilda Bernice Zehring (1915-2006), Lois Virginia Zehring (1922-2001), and her brother Frederick Ferdinand Zehring (1921-1945).

Lita is survived by her four daughters: Amy Ruth Cornwell (Joe), Gina Lytton Kimberlain, Lisa Lytton Shugaar (Antony), and Kara Lytton (Rick Miller). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren Zach Cornwell, Tessa Quade (JR), Heather Kimberlain, Timothy Kimberlain (Dana), Tyler Kimberlain (Misaki), Arlie Shugaar, and Tara Tenney (Scott). She has nine great grandchildren, Chas Sizemore, Mark Axl Kimberlain, Zoe Kimberlain, Daniel Kimberlain, Nola Tenney, Mac Tenney, Miller Tenney, and Thea Tenney.

Lita was a member of Rader Lutheran church but also attended Solomons Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church. She and Ty were early members of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Greenville, S.C.

A graveside service will be held at Solomons Lutheran Church on December 29, 2024, at 3 PM. There will be no services at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway VA.
