Obituary

Loretta Snyder Souder, 86, of Mathias, WV passed away April 29, 2025 at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born August 24, 1938 in Harrisonburg to the late Carter G. and Elna "Jean" Hahn Snyder.

Loretta was an aide at Mathias School in the 60's and 70's.  In the 80's and 90's she was a poultry farmer.  She enjoyed baking and sold goods at Lost River General Store.  She was famous for her sweet bread and cakes.  She was a lifelong member of the Brethren Church, and was involved in the Women's Fellowship at the Church of the Brethren.  She served as an officer for the Senior Citizens Organization.  She loved gardening, canning, reading, bird watching, and especially her family.

On July 3, 1955 she married Orville Lee Souder, who preceded her in death January 28, 2003.

Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Wilkins and husband Marvin of Mathias, WV, Annette Shipe of Mathias; granddaughters, Rachel Childers and husband David, Charity Smith, Lauren Smith and husband Brent, Katelyn Fisher and husband Jeff; great grandchildren, Austin Smith (Ellen), Seth Smith (Abby), Brinn Childers, Jadyn Whetzel, Xavia Barber, Reed Smith, Sophie Smith, Kenedy Fisher; great great grandchild, Vernon Smith; step grandchildren, Shawn Childers, Brionna Hartman (Bruce), Caleb Childers; step great grandchildren, John and Jesse Hartman.

Her daughter, Sarah Souder, and brother, Jim Snyder preceded her in death.

Pastors Jonathan Hedrick and James Carr will conduct a funeral service 11:00 AM Saturday at Mathias Brethren Church.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 – 7 PM at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
