Obituary

Marilyn Jean Waggoner Thomas, 93, of Broadway, VA passed away October 31, 2025 at her home.

She was born September 30, 1932 in Shelbyville, Tennessee to the late Robert and Eura Morris Waggoner.  She graduated from Broadway High School in 1951.

Jean was a substitute teacher for many years at Plains Elementary School in Timberville.  She was a member of Sunset Drive United Methodist Church and also attended Bethel Church of the Brethren.

Married to Kenneth R. Thomas on June 6, 1953, who preceded her in death on February 12, 1988.  Also preceded in death by twin sister Jane Long, brother Robert Waggoner, and grandson Ben Thomas.

Survived by her two sons Kenneth R. Thomas, Jr. and wife Debe of Criders and Jeffrey S. Thomas and wife Sandy of Newnan, Georgia; daughter Diane E. Thomas of Broadway; special friend Carroll Layman;  brother William Waggoner of Greenville, North Carolina; sister Patty Wilkinson and husband Marshall of Newton, North Carolina; six grandchildren:  Bill Thomas (Amber Showalter), Jostin Bilyeu (Meg), Andy Thomas (Karen), Matthew Thomas, Eura Reynolds, and Zachary Thomas; three great grandchildren:  Andrew, Ramona, and Clarke Bilyeu; and Avery Thomas; and sister-in-law Nadine Murphy of Front Royal.

In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated.  A private graveside service will be announced at a later date.
