Matthew Blaine Dove, 91 of New Market, VA passed away April 6, 2026 at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

He was born July 16, 1934 in Fulks Run to the late Roy Ernest and Rosie Carr Dove.

Matthew worked at Lantz Construction Company as a finish carpenter and job superintendent for 38 years before retiring.  He was a member of Mtn. Grove Church of the Brethren in Fulks Run, where he served as a lifetime deacon, trustee and served on the finance board for over 30 years.  He was an avid trout fisherman.  He loved being outdoors and in nature.  He enjoyed his flower beds, singing and playing his guitar.

His first wife, Dorothy Rebecca Smith Dove, whom he married November 29, 1953 preceded him in death September 28, 2010.

He is survived by his second wife, the former Phyllis Jean Reedy, whom he married May 17, 2012.

Matthew is also survived by two sons, Dennis Keith Dove and Daryl Kim "Chip" Dove, both of Broadway; two step sons; Floyd Reedy Jr., Ralph Reedy, a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Sue Dove; his brother, Donnie Dove; and two sisters, Charlotte Cullers and Esther Fay Anderson.

Pastors Jerry Shiflet, Glen Turner, and Lane Turner will conduct a funeral service 11:00 AM Friday at Mtn. Grove Church of the Brethren.  Burial will follow in the Mtn. Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 – 8 PM at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
