Obituary

Maxine Frances Olson, 81 of Rockingham VA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 29, 2025.

She was born on September 22, 1943 in Quicksburg VA to the late Harold W and Velda Silvious Williams.

Maxine was a hard worker throughout her life. She worked at Rockingham Poultry where she was a Union Steward, H D Lee Co, and Quality Inn. In her later years she was a homemaker. Maxine made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds, gardening, her pets and most of all spending time with her family who she treasured most.

On April 15, 1961 she married Albert E Handel Sr. who preceded her in death in November 1984. On September 10, 1988 she married George R Olson who survives.

Also surviving are her children, Patricia Handel Nesselrodt (Bruce) of Broadway, Albert Handel Jr. of Rockingham, Stepson, George "Rick" Olson of CA. Grandchildren, Heather Justice (Michael) Terri McGillivray, Devin Correa (Ricardo), Alison Nesselrodt, Dyllen Handel (Michelle), Michele Stoner, Melissa Craig, Robert Ashwell Jr. Great-Grandchildren, Lance, William, Aiden, Lilly, Noah, Joseph, Colton. Numerous nieces and nephews and family in PA.

She was preceded in death by her Son-in-Law Richard Johns, Stepdaughter Judy Ashwell, Sisters, Larue Martin (William - still living), Shelby Bailey (Pete), Juanita Meadows (Donald).

Her family would like to thank the Doctors and Healthcare Nurses and Staff at UVA Health Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, Moser Radiation Oncology, Sentara RMH, Sentara RMH Hahn Oncology Center, Sentara Home Health/PT, Sentara Wound Healing Center, Sentara Palliative Care Specialists and Sentara Hospice Services for their incredible care and support recently and over the last 5 years.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 11:00am at Mount Jackson Cemetery, Mt Jackson VA.

Her body was cremated.
