Mayre White Bowman, 87, of New Market passed away on June 17, 2025 at Timberview Crossing where she resided for the past 3 ½ years.

She was born on March 6, 1938 in Tappahannock, Virginia to Benjamin and Frances Zirkle White.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Benjamin White, Jr. and John White and sisters, Jeanette White and Jane Jansen, she has one surviving sister, Ann Pierson.

On June 17, 1961 she married Lee Bowman who preceded her in death.

She was especially proud of her five children: Benjamin Bowman (Branka), Sally Bowman (deceased), Jacob Bowman (Emily), Jan White (Joey) and Mary Lou Bowman. She also had five grandchildren who brought her great joy: Tamara Bowman, Lee Bowman, Ethan Bowman, Hallie Frye (Nick), and Dalton White.

She graduated from Virginia Tech in 1961 with a BS degree in Social Work. Due to Lee's job, she lived in Northern Virginia; Okinawa, Japan; Miami, Florida; Bonn, Germany and Williamsburg, Virginia before retiring to New Market. She loved traveling and learning the history of the places they lived. She was a member of Windhaven Church for many years. Throughout her life, she enjoyed sewing, embroidery, genealogy, reading and watching her grandchildren. She enjoyed socializing and could get to know anyone very quickly. She enjoyed visiting with family and telling stories to her children and grandchildren about her life and family history.
