Mildred Jane Sipe Diehl of New Market, Virginia passed away on January 11, 2026 at the age of 97.  Mildred was born on January 28, 1928, near Weyers Cave, VA, to Henry and Lorena Saufley Sipe.  She had been a resident of the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community for the past few years.

Mildred married I. W. (Bill) Diehl on September 4, 1946, and they were together just six months shy of 75 years.  She is survived by her two children, son, Wayne (Claudia), their children Ashlee Smith (Dave), Matthew Diehl (Elizabeth) and Jacob Diehl (Mary Beth) and, daughter, Donna Hores (Charles) and their children Lauren McConnell (Nick) and Richard Hores (Stephanie).  In addition, she had eight great-grandchildren.

Mildred grew up on a farm with four sisters, three of whom are deceased, Virginia Yancey, Marie Yancey and Janet Edwards.  She is survived by an older sister, Gladys Brown of Harrisonburg.

Over the years Mildred worked at various secretarial and administrative positions at Farmers and Merchants Bank, the US Forest Service and the US Post Office.

Mildred was very involved in the community.  A founding member of the Plains District Women's Club, she was elected its first president in 1953. Mildred also led the Timberville Elementary School PTA as president.

Mildred regularly attended Timberville Church of the Brethren and served in a number of positions over the course of fifty-plus years.

Mildred was just the person one would wish to have as an acquaintance, friend, neighbor, co-worker or family member.  She would most want to be remembered, however, as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

A private committal service will be held at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren.  The public is invited to a Memorial Service, to be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, January 17th, at Timberville Church of the Brethren.  Pastor Karl Magenhofer will officiate.  A reception will immediately follow in the church Fellowship Hall.
