O. Gene Nesselrodt, 90, of Broadway, passed away February 26, 2026, peacefully at his home.
Born November 15, 1935, in Franklin, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Lee and Jessie Hepner Nesselrodt.
Gene retired as an engineering technician for the U.S. Forestry Service. He was a faithful member of Broadway Baptist Church and a devoted servant to his community. He was a charter member of the Broadway Fire Department and Broadway Rescue Squad and served 12 years on the Broadway Town Council. He was also a past member of the Elks and Moose and a current member of the Eagles.
Gene loved bluegrass, gospel, and country music and could often be found riding his motorcycle or holding court at the Town and Country Restaurant, where he never met a stranger. Known for his independent spirit, Gene lived life on his own terms and made it memorable. His open heart and sense of humor left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
On September 27, 1957, he married Ogretta Dove Rhodes Nesselrodt, who preceded him in death on July 27, 2007.
Survivors include his daughter, Rosemary Moyer; stepdaughter, Susan A. Rhodes; brother, Wayne Nesselrodt; grandson, Jeremy Rhodes; granddaughters, Meridith Peele (husband Sterling) and Tracey Grimm (husband Rodrigo); great-granddaughters Morgan Propst (husband Logan) and Afton Peele; great-grandsons Jackson and Wyatt Peele, and Tyler Rhodes; great-great-granddaughters Rein Poff and Harper Propst; daughter-in-law Judy Rhodes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Stephen Rhodes, and two sisters, Hilda Vandevander and Francis Baldwin.
Burial will be private at Linville Creek Cemetery. A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Donnie Owen on Saturday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Broadway Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at a gathering following the service at the church.
