Olin Eugene Bliss, affectionately known as "Gene," 88, of Timberville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on June 28, 2026, surrounded by family and his beloved Dog.
Born on January 15, 1938, in Scio New York, Gene was the son of the late Mahlon Weldon Bliss and Iva May Wright.
For more than 20 years, Gene proudly served his community as a State Farm insurance agent, building lasting relationships through his honesty, integrity, and genuine care for others. Beyond his career, his greatest passion was the ranching life. He found joy in raising cattle, caring for his beloved Quarter Horses, and embracing the values of hard work, self-reliance, and the open land.
Gene lived a life that could only be described as legendary. He was a man of unwavering strength, quiet generosity, and unforgettable stories that could captivate anyone fortunate enough to listen. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing wisdom earned through experience, or simply making those around him laugh, Gene left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He never hesitated to help someone in need. His kindness, resilience, and larger-than-life spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cheri Samson Bliss; his daughter, Bobbie Jo Bliss (Shane Mcinroy); his sons, Ned Bliss and Brett Bliss; his grandchildren, Kelsey Bliss, Dathan Bliss, Gage Bliss, Cheyenne Bliss, Desiree Eggleston, Sherry Bliss and Clinton Bliss; Shyanne McInroy ; Shane McInroy Jr. ; Selena McInroy and his many beloved great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by numerous relatives on his wife's side of the family including his step children, Alexis Spade ,Roxanne Samson, and Maximilian Samson.
Per Gene's wishes, there will be no services , his children will be holding a celebration of life in the near future.
Though he may no longer walk beside us, his stories, his lessons, and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy will continue through the family he loved so dearly and the countless lives he touched.
