Dick Pierce passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026 at the age of 78 leaving behind a legacy of service, hard work, devotion to family and commitment to his community.

Born to Anna Lee and John Henry Pierce, Dick grew up in the Shenandoah Valley. He met the love of his life, Annette, in grade school, and after high school their friendship blossomed into a love story that would endure for 58 years of marriage.

During the Vietnam era, Dick served in the United States Air Force before returning home to continue his education.  He earned a bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University and later a master's degree from James Madison University.  Dick's professional career included positions with SB Hoover and Company and Banta but he found his true calling at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he worked for 28 years.  He loved his work at the hospital and took great pride in supporting its mission and the people it served. His leadership and dedication were evident in everything he did, and he was known for the sincere care he brought to every situation.

Outside of this professional life, Dick was a farmer at heart.  Farming was not simply a pastime but an important part of who he was.  He found great satisfaction in working the animals and improving the farm.  One of his proudest accomplishments was his bulldozer, which brought him countless hours of enjoyment, destruction, and purpose.  He also loved hunting and fishing and treasured the time spent outdoors.

Dick's commitment to service extended beyond his career. Faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of the Timberville Church of the Brethren; additionally, he was an active member of the Lion's club and served on the board of Virginia Blood Services, generously sharing his time and talents to strengthen his community.

Above all, Dick was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Annette; his son, Jon Pierce (Alison); his daughter Christy Magruder (Mike); and his four cherished grandchildren, Jesse, Chloe, Maggie and Lena. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Crider, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Lee Price and John Henry Pierce; his stepfather, Stanley Price; and his siblings, Denise Broy and Donnie Pierce. He took immense pride in his family and found great joy in watching his grandchildren grow.

Dick will be remembered for his sense of humor, warm heart and ability to make people feel welcome.  He loved being around others, sharing stories, and bringing laughter to family gatherings and conversations with friends.  Whether at the hospital, on the farm or in the company of those he loved, he approached life with enthusiasm, generosity and a genuine interest in people

A memorial service will be held at the Timberville Church of the Brethren on Monday, June 22nd , at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local rescue squad or fire department.
