Ricky "Bubba" E. Brown was born in Richmond, VA on April 4, 1960 and departed this life on January 11, 2024 at the age of 63.

He passed peacefully surrounded by his wife, son, brother and life-long friends.

He was born to the late Elizabeth "Liz" Veney and lovingly raised by Liz and Charles Junior Frye. He attended elementary school in New Market, VA then moved to Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina where he graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1978. After graduating he moved back to the Shenandoah Valley where he resided with his late grandparents Evelyn and Charles "Chief" Veney.

He leaves behind his wife Patricia Brown (formerly Strickler). Together they raised their son Marc Rinker (Madison) of whom Bubba was truly proud. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Madelyn Rinker, Eden Rinker, Myles Rinker and was looking forward to the arrival of another grandson in July. Being their "Poppy" was his greatest role.

Bubba is survived by his siblings William "Rufus" Brown, Lori Dexter (Gordy), Steven "Weeber" Brown, and Michelle Shirkey (Lee) and sibling-in-laws Donna Brown (John), Terry Strickler (Sandy), and David Strickler (Debbie) whom he fondly treasured as true brothers and sisters. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bubba worked for RR Donnelly for many years until his illness forced his retirement in 2019. He was known for his athletic abilities as an exceptional softball player and golfer. When not working, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course and ultimately made his retirement home near Shenvalee Golf Course in New Market, VA.

Bubba made many lifelong friends through the years. He was a humble man who never met a stranger. He always had time for others and was happy to help wherever and whenever he was needed. Bubba will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He would want everyone to know that he ran his race and was prepared to meet his Lord.

In lieu of flowers, Bubba would have appreciated donations in his name to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital (StJude.org) the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (aspca.org), or the Ronald McDonald House in Charlottesville, VA (rmhcharlottesville.org).

Pastor Mark Reese and Tony Morgan will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 am Friday at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway. Following the memorial service, the family would like to invite you to share in a meal at the New Market Eagles (57 White Mill Road, New Market, VA).

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Overby, Dr. Waligora, Constance Wenger PA, Angie Jenkins RN, and all the staff at the Harrisonburg Dialysis Center; as well as all the doctors, nurses and staff members at Hahn Cancer Center for providing such excellent care.

The family would like to thank Pastor Mark Reese and Tony Morgan for their support and words of encouragement. They would also like and extend their gratitude to friends and family for all the love, prayers and support they have received during this difficult time.
