Robert Lee Hottinger, 89, of Bergton, VA passed away September 29, 2025 at his son's residence.
He was born February 3, 1936 in Bergton to the late Loy Elmer and Lena Jane Simon Hottinger.
Robert was a boiler technician at Dunham Bush before retiring. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was one of the founders and a life-time member of the Broadway Emergency Squad – Bergton Branch, and also a life-time honorary Ruritan Club member. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.
On March 18, 1959 he married the former Beatrice Whetzel, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Durand Hottinger and wife Carolyn of Bergton, Jeremy Hottinger and wife Angie of Bergton; grandchildren ,Jennifer Mongold and husband Eric of Mathias, WV, Ashley Shiflet and husband Justin of Fulks Run; great grandchildren, Landen Mongold, Garrett Mongold, Parker Shiflet and Hadley Shiflet; one sister, Gay Kirby of Franklin, KY, one brother, Richard Hottinger of Phoenix City, Alabama.
Robert was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronald, Alfred, Loy Elmer, Jr., and George Hottinger; five sisters, Velma Lantz, Faye "Norma" Hottinger, Loraine Fitzsimmons, Edith Hottinger, and Marian Ruby Ennis.
Pastor Jeff May will conduct a funeral service 2:30 PM Friday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Bergton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Thursday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
