Dinah Sue "Susie" Ayala, 73, of Harrisonburg, died December 6, 2023 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg.
She was born August 19, 1950 in Rockingham County and was a daughter to the late Clarence M. and Pauline Brown Shope.
She had worked as a tagger at Marshalls. Susie grew up attending and was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Tenth Legion where she was very active as a youth leader, Sunday school teacher and choir member. Most recently, she was a member of Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene. She was a 1968 graduate of Broadway High School and also graduated from Blue Ridge Community College with an Associates Degree in Secretarial Science. She was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. Susie blessed all those who encountered her through her selfless, strong, loving and faithful personality.
On March 28, 1980 she married Salvador Ayala, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons; Damon Zirk and wife Mayra, of Rockingham, Aaron Ayala and wife Stacey, of Singers Glen, Greg Ayala and wife Crystal, of Singers Glen, five grandchildren; Logan Ayala, Drayken Ayala, Aubree Ayala, Camron Ayala, Dayme Zirk, three sisters; Anna Lou Miller, of Penn Laird, Karen Weaver, of Harrisonburg, Polly Martin, of Avon Park, FL, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son; Christopher Edward Stull, brother-in-law; R.C. Weaver, Jr., in-laws; Gregorio and Nicholasa Ayala, brothers-in-law; Carmelo, Samuel, Felipe, Rafael, Ediberto, sister-in-law; Marta, and grandparents; Homer and Catherine Holsinger Brown.
Due to inclement weather the memorial service to be held on Sunday, January 7, at 5 PM at Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene has been rescheduled for Sunday, January 14, at 4 PM. The family will meet friends at 3:00 PM prior to the service.
If there's inclement weather on January 14 the memorial service will be on Sunday, January 21, 4 PM with the family meeting friends at 3:00 PM prior to the service.
There will not be any services at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice in Susie's memory.
