Virginia "Jinx"
Miller Long
Sep 15, 1928 — Feb 1, 2025
New Market
Virginia (Jinx) Lee Miller Long, 96 years of age, passed away the morning of February 1, 2025.
She was born September 15, 1928 at the Miller homeplace to the late I. Frank Miller and Bessie Jones Miller of Timberville, VA.
Harry Emmett Long and Virginia Miller Long were married on June 23, 1951. Harry preceded her in death on November 29, 2023.
They had one son who survives, Christopher Emmett Long and his wife Edy, two grandsons, Christopher Tyler Long (Rachel), Dillon Emmett Long (Elise), and two great granddaughters, Rebecca Grace Long and Chloe Elizabeth Long.
She had a loving and wonderful sister who preceded her in death, Elizabeth Taylor.
Jinx was 11 when her mother passed away and was raised by her aunt Sallie Miller, who was already raising two nephews and a niece, children of her deceased sister. Aunt Sallie moved back to her homeplace to raise and take care of her brother Frank and now his two daughters as well. Jinx was Virginia's nickname, originated from a cat she had much affection for as a child.
Jinx was an outstanding student and excelled in all aspects of her early education. She graduated from Timberville High School in 1945. She attended Madison College for women and earned her Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Business Education.
She began her teaching career in Martinsville, VA and later taught at Broadway High School, Edinburg High School and Central High School in Woodstock.
Virginia was a member and trustee of Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market. She was the past president of the Cohee Garden Club. She loved playing golf with her friends at Shenvalee. Other pastimes that she enjoyed included painting, traveling, flower gardening and her Bridge Clubs (she lived for Bridge!).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church's scholarship fund, P.O. Box 896, New Market, VA 22844.
One of Jinx's last wishes was to have a memorial service for both Harry and her on a nice warm day. She didn't want anyone out in the cold, she said.
A memorial service will be held May 18, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Reformation Lutheran Church at New Market VA
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, VA.
