William Jeffries "Bill" Hunter Jr. died at home Monday, June 2, 2025.

He was born August 16, 1936, in Haddonfield, NJ, the son of William J. Hunter Sr. and Dorothy (Hadley) Hunter.

His first job was at Howard Johnson's at Exit 5 on the New Jersey Turnpike. Bill graduated from Haddonfield High in 1954.  Following graduation, he attended Drexel Institute of Technology, where he received two Bachelor of Science degrees in 1959 and 1972.  After college he entered the U.S. Army in 1960, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.  After leaving the Army, he worked at RCA in Morristown, NJ, as an electronics engineer.

He met his wife Cathy on a blind date, taking her to a car show.  They have been going to car shows ever since.  They were married on August 18, 1963, and resided in New Jersey, where they began raising their three children: Jeff, Cheryl, and Charlie.  In 1971, Bill went to work for the U.S. Navy at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, moving the family to Chesapeake, VA.  They then moved to Burke, VA, in 1980, when he transferred to Space and Naval Warfare Systems in Crystal City.  Bill and Cathy retired to Broadway, VA, in 1997.  His hobbies included traveling with Cathy, working on his Ford Model Ts and Model A, participating in various antique car clubs, especially the Tri-County AACA and the Shenandoah Valley Racketeers, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Dot.  He is survived by his wife Cathy, his brother Aaron Hunter, his children Jeff Hunter and wife Amy (Faulkner), Cheryl (Hunter) Goss and husband Gary Goss, and Charlie Hunter and wife Janine (Harris), his grandchildren Christina (Goss) Haye and husband Jeff Haye, Megan Goss, Jonathan Goss, Chara Hunter, Will Hunter, Jordan Hunter, Nora Hunter, David Hunter, Nicholas Hunter, Lucy Hunter, Patrick Hunter, Alice Hunter, and great grandchildren Coralynn Haye and Jiren Haye.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, VA, preceded by a visitation starting at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
