Wilma Denese Lawson, 68, of New Market, died May 9, 2026 at her home.

She was born November 24, 1957 in Lawton,OK and was a daughter to the late Marion and Lela Hitt Lawson.

She was a homemaker and had her CNA license.

On February 28, 1974 she married Carey Thompson, who preceded her in death on November 4, 2024.

Surviving her are a daughter; Melba Mitchell (Jeremie Southerly), of Timberville, a son; Shawn B. Thompson, of New Market, two grandchildren; Brooklyn Mitchell (Tyler Payne), of Mt. Jackson, Hunter Anderson (Madison Saunders), of Fulks Run, four great grandchildren; Ashlynn, Rhyatt and Tatum Payne, Brynnlee Anderson, three brothers; Marvin Lawson, of Mexico, Thurman Lawson, of OK, Michael Lawson, of OK and one sister; Althea Wilson, of OK.

She was preceded in death by a daughter; Jennifer Thompson, two sisters; Shirley Ward, Volene Smith.

Pastor Sandra Cave will conduct a graveside service on Wednesday at 1 PM at the Mountain Valley UMC Cemetery near Harrisonburg.

There will not be any services at the funeral home.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Grandle Funeral Home, P.O. Box 114, Broadway, VA 22815 to help offset funeral expenses.
